The stupid idea for the day is:

Abstinence only education.
If you don't tell people about sex, does that mean they won't figure it out?

"I just want to say that I don't think the two biggest problems in America are that too many people want to commit their lives to one another till death do us part, and steroids in sports."

--Meryl Streep, at the Golden Globes

I guess I'm not the only one who heard President Bush's tirade about steroids in sports, and said..... "what?" Is the president going to personally administer urine tests to athletes now? He made it seem like he was going to single-handedly make sure that there would be NO MORE STEROIDS IN SPORTS!

As for his whole "protecting the american family" thing. I have a few questions. First of all, does he think that homosexuals do not want heterosexuals to marry each other? Is there going to be a rash of wedding crashings by extremely stylish men? "NO, you can't get married. Our goal is to destroy the American family!" Plus, does President Bush think that by outlawing gay marriage, he's going to make gay people realize that if they only had Jesus, they could be straight? Does he think that people will feel more comfortable with their sexuality, and be open enough about themselves so that they won't enter into a heterosexual marriage because they cannot admit to themselves what they truly are? Does President Bush realize that he is creating a hostile environment for a large percentage of the populace? I don't think he realizes much of anything. The sick thing is, there are more people than can be counted who think just like him. God help us all.

I am the new bitch of Charter One Bank.

I hate banks. I hate bank fees. I hate mysterious "annual fees" that pop up out of nowhere and make Ryan and me overdrawn on our checking account, to the tune of $33. I hate balancing my checkbook every single day. "Totally free" checking is a crock. I hate fighting with everybody about money. I have argued with the bank, with my check ledger, with some "customer service" lady, and with Ryan about money today. I am fed up!

Well, here I am, on the eve of my return to school. I got my grade back for my last test. I passed. This was a gift from God because I did not deserve to pass. I slacked off for the first two weeks of this block, and I'm pretty sure the only drug I knew going into the test was atropine. This is not a big deal because everybody who has watched an episode of ER knows what atropine does. Seriously. I was a total loser on the med school front.

I had a relaxing break, for the most part. After the weird depression thing I go through every time I get a break from school, things got better. I don't know why it happens, but when I don't have anything school-related to worry about, I spend a lot of time bummed out. It happened last summer, too. I don't know if I turn my attention to worrying about money, or what. Even that is getting better now. Ryan got some paychecks, so we're paying the bills we were behind on. I feel a little better now that we're getting caught up, but I think I would be in ecstasy if we were able to get ahead. That would be swell. I think we may be able to do it soon.

I had a good time with my family over break. My sister came home from Virginia, and we got to play Scrabble and do other assorted things that dorks like to do. I took Diane home to meet my parents and showed her the house they're building. I got a ton of lovely gifts from Ryan's family for Christmas and my birthday. His family spoils me rotten, and I love them.

Best of all, Ryan and I are engaged again. We are so filled with hope for the future it would disgust most people. I couldn't be happier. :)
