I heart my new computer!
After working with my dad over Christmas, I managed to earn enough money to buy myself a laptop. It is the most wonderful laptop in the world. I am blogging at Panera right now. I was always jealous of the lucky bastards who could use their computers at Panera. This ROCKS!

I'm sitting around here waiting for Allison to return from getting her hair cut. We have been meeting here to discuss our rank lists. Even though we didn't go to interviews together, we always talked after each one. So, she remembers things I said about programs that I might have forgotten about, and can recall the general post-interview tone. It helps because, contrary to the advice we were given, neither one of us took very good notes on our visits. We just left thinking "yes" or "no." We are making lists and spreadsheets, and talking about the potential benefits and limitations of each place... and trying not to throw up over the stress of it all. I was looking forward to this part of the process because I want to move out of Toledo. Now, I'm just worried. What if I end up in the middle of a cow pasture in Pennsylvania? I suppose I would rather do that than scramble, but it's a near thing. The programs I went to are all good places, but the locations are very very different. Allie runs into the problem of trying to find a good school for her son at the same time. Anway, it's tough. I have my list done, but I'm going to sleep on it for a few days before I submit it.

In other news, I went to James and Margarete's wedding on the 21st. A good time was had by all. (I mean a good time.) It was the kind of good time that only comes with an open bar. I think I drank a whole bottle of red wine myself, and Sarah had at least a 5th of vodka. We danced, and sang along with the songs, and generally behaved like teenagers who had gotten into the liquor cabinet. I caught the bouquet, something I haven't done since my cousin Jill's wedding that I attended at the age of eleven. I usually don't like getting up in front of a bunch of people to proclaim, "hey! I'm not married, and I'm 28 years old!" but, at the time, it was all very amusing. The ceremony itself was beautiful. Margarete looked fantastic, and James smiled for the whole day. Now, they're in Hawaii for their honeymoon.

The next rotation I'm starting is Trauma Surgery, but I think I'm going to change it to something easier. I'm still feeling pretty lazy, and I would like to pick up some more hours at Borders. I have been just hemorrhaging money lately for trips and board exams and a lot of other crap. I would like to have enough cash to actually rent a truck to move all of my stuff at the end of the year. Of course, residency programs don't provide money for moving expenses. I guess it's another thing to write off on my taxes.

Grey's Anatomy comes out of DVD on February 14th. I think it will be my Valentine's Day gift to myself.

Okay. I haven't posted in a while because my computer is B-R-O-K-E-N. It is a desk ornament. It is the largest paperweight ever. I also don't seem to have to attend school very much anymore given my month of flex time, followed by Christmas vacation. I actually went this morning for path case studies and it was seriously like finding a relic from another life. I walked by my mailbox and thought.... weird. I used to be obsessed with that thing. Furthermore, I found my now dusty white coat in my front closet and my stethoscope on the floor of my closet in my room. The point is, I don't even go to school where there are computers. I know all of you have been waiting for an update. (Actually, no one is waiting. The only person who complains is my sister.) I really need to get back into clinical medicine. These interviews are draining.
