It is hotter than blazes outside, hotter than a whore in church. It's so humid that my glasses fogged up when I got out of my car at work this morning at 5:50 am. They didn't clear up until I got into the AC in the hospital. If I were still 9 years old, my sister, Courtney, and Tiffany and I would have spent the whole day in the pool. Today, I'm pretty sure we're all working, except for maybe Missy. She and Joe were going to go to North Carolina for her 10th vacation this year. I'm not jealous, or anything. She has promised me that we're going to go on vacation when I graduate from med school in June. I think that's the last glimpse of relaxation I'm going to see for a really long time.

I still have not heard from Georgetown yet! Actually, I have, but it has just been non-committal statements like, "I'll be really surprised if we can't offer you a spot." I'm not going to pack my bags based on that. Unfortunately, the rotation starts on August 1st, I think. So, today is the 25th. You do the math. If I didn't have a place to stay with my sister, I would never be able to wait around like this. I was worried that this might have something to do with my background, but one of the third year students on service with me said they did this to her sister last year when she was trying to do away rotations. People would just let her know at the last minute. I'm not sure if the guys that are responsible for med student recruiting know about this. This girl matched at Harvard in psychiatry.

I also submitted an application to Indiana University to do a rotation in Hepatobiliary Surgery with my hero, Dr. Z. Yay. :)

I paid for my USMLE Step 2 exam today. It was something like $450! That's a lot of money. The new clinical skills exam is over $900! I'm going to start selling plasma. Since my service has been reallly slow for the entire time I've been here, I have started studing a little bit for step 2. I think I would like to be more than one standard deviation above the mean this time. By this, I don't necessarily mean two standard deviations, just one with a couple of touch downs.

Well, kids, I have been an acting intern for 2 weeks. It wasn't what I thought it would be, and I've been complaining about it so much I don't even want to blog about it.

I learned from one of my fellow medical students today that my boyfriend, Brad Pitt, was in the hospital for viral meningitis. Poor boyfriend. That means that somebody did a spinal tap on him. That sucks.

It looks like Georgetown is going to have some room for me, but it sounds like their medical education department is about as helpful as the one here at MCO (excuse me, MUOT). I don't care, though. If they have a spot for me, I'm going. I find out on Wednesday.

That's all.

I hate financial aid. My car is on E. My mom is expecting me to come to Michigan today. I will not be able to make it on the gas I have. She is going to be pissed off. The thing is that I have direct deposit, and that is supposed to be faster than having MCO send me a check. Well, Sarah got her check three days ago. I called student accounts to see what was going on and they told me the money would be in my account today. Now, I realize that today isn't over yet, but I need that money now. right now. gr. I can't believe that every year I am singing the same tune. I will be glad when I have a real job and they have to pay me on time. I really don't like waiting for them to get through filing their nails long enough to send me my refund. Bitches.

In unrelated news, Sarah had a party on Thursday night. Lots of the kids showed up, and a good time was had by all. I made the mistake of drinking 2 and 1/2 glasses of Sarah's mom's margaritas. Those things are like battery acid that tastes really good. I was drunkedy-drunk-drunk by the end of the night. Fortunately, Sarah was kind enough to let me sleep in her guest bedroom. The next day I had a head-to-toe hangover. I will stay away from margaritas in the future. No good can come of it.

I can't believe 4th year is already upon us. Lots of the people that I have studied with and leaned on for the last three years are going out of state to do away rotations starting on the 5th. I'm going myself in August. I'm used to having these people around all of the time, and it's going to be weird when they're gone. We won't even be getting together for regular exams. The only tests we have left are Step 2 of the boards and the neurology exam, and we'll be taking them at different times. The med school experience has been a lot like high school. We were in a class of 150 people, which was even smaller than my high school class. We sat in a lecture hall all together every day for two years. We obsessed about Step 1 the way we all obsessed over the SAT or ACT. We all knew each other's business, celebrated weddings and the births of children, had birthday parties for each other, and partied after big exams. I have been fortunate in the people with which I have done this segment of my education. I know this seems premature because the real deal won't occur until next year, but I know this year is also going to be different. Maybe I'm just getting warmed up.
